ReplyDeleteI think that Dorothy was right because, there was no evidence in the book that you had to be a wringer. On page 43, Palmer had asked if his father was a wringer. His father had said, yes. When you become a wringer all you get is to show off and the pride of the name.
I also found on a unknown page that I could not locate, that Beans had asked Palmer if he was going to be a wringer. Palmer had replied with a simple, sure. Beans was giving Palmer an opportunity to become a wringer or not. That's why I thought becoming a wringer was a choice you make.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Cassidy because, Dorothy is right. It doesn't say anything in the book that you have to be a wringer. Palmer's father was a wringer (pg. 43). But that doesn't mean he has to. When your a wringer you just snap the necks off the pigeons body, you don't have to do it, and you just get to share the fame you get. This is why I thought becoming a wringer is the decision you make and Dorothy was right.

ReplyDeleteI agree with both cassidy and francine because it doesnt say that you have to be a wriner if you dont want to be one. All you get to do when your a wringer is to show off and brake pigeons necks. i also think you get to choose if you want to be a wringer because lets say your family tradition is that you cant kill birds than what would you do?. that is why i think you get to choose to be a wringer.

ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone, you don't have to be a wringer. It's just to "show off"(pg.43). It said Palmer's dad was a wringer.I bet he just wanted to act cool in front of others. For example, say somebody did a prank to somebody, every one would think they're cool but, you still did something wrong. In the minds of others, do they really think that they are cool?

ReplyDeleteI agree with Roy, Francine, and Cassidy because like Cassidy said there is no evidence in the story that says you have to be a wringer and also it is a free country and no one is really making you be a wringer. Palmer's father was a wringer and on pg.43 Palmer asked his dad, "Will I be a wringer, too?" and Palmer's dad replied, "Sure thing, big guy". But nowhere in there does it say he has to. Palmer's dad probably thought Palmer wanted to be a wringer so that's why he said that to him. That's why I think you can choose if you want to be a wringer.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Eric,Roy,Francine,And CAssidy because there truely is no evidence he HAS to become a wringer. In chapter 16 he befriends a piegon and feeds it and let's it sleep in the closet. His mom almost finds the piegon because she didn't knock and just walked right in.The piegon was sleeping in the shoe box where the soliders are. In the kitchen he had to clean up the piegon poop.Well like he said it was more of a powder. Also he kept on feeding it Franken puffs. At one point he distroys the piegon tracks so Beans And Mutto won't find out there was a piegon there at his house.

ReplyDeleteI agree with all of you because there is no proof that he has to become a wringer. Even though his dad was (pg.43) it doesn't mean he has to. Even though his dad said he was going to be a wringer like him doesn't mean he has to. Dorothy is probably correct because there's no law saying all boys when they become ten have to become a wringer. If Palmer doesn't become a wringer the people surrounding him will be dissapointed including his dad.

ReplyDeleteIt's hard to say who I agree with about Palmer becoming a wringer. Part of me thinks Palmer is right because all ten year old boys are wringers where he comes from. Even his dad was a wringer. He doesn't know what else to do because everybody expects him to be one. He is also kind of scared not to be a wringer because he will be mocked or beat up by the other kids. I could also agree with Dorothy because no one can really make you do something you don't want to do.

ReplyDeleteI forgot to post my evidence.
On pg. 53 Beans kept asking Palmer, "You gonna be a wringer?" and that is why I said everyone expects him to be a wringer.

ReplyDeletePalmer does not have to be a wringer but he feels an obligation to because it is a tradition for the entire neighborhood. It is expected of him too. Even Beans and the guys expect him to(pg. 53.) On page 53 it says that the golden award says "sharpshooter" award so it is also a family tradition. Dorothy says that he doesn't have to because she is not in the same position. I do not think that girls become wringers so she has no obligation to. So I feel like Dorothy is right but there is definitely a possibility that it is like a rule, this I don't know. But I know that it is a custom and that is why Palmer feels such an obligation to become a wringer.

ReplyDeleteI think Dorthy is right is right, no one ever said you have to become a wringer(131). Palmer is just over reacting, just because everyone else does it Palmer thinks he has to do it too. No where in the book says he has to do it.I think there are many ways to get out of becoming a wringer, like acting sick, hide somewhere, or just not do it of couse some people would hate you, but it is better than becoming a wringer.

ReplyDeleteI think that Dorthy is correct because being a wringer is a choice. Technically, he is suppose to be a wringer, because his dad was one (pg 43), but decides not to. No one can force you to do anything that you don't want to.
I think that he dosn't have to be a wringer but his dad was one so probably his dad would want Palmer to be a wringer so he is just so freaked out about it ( pg. 43). I think Palmer is freaked out about it because he has a pet pigion so he dosn't want to kill other inocent birds. Also I think Dorothy is right that he doesn't have to be a wringer. Its not like if he doesn't wring a bird the'll kill him.

ReplyDeleteI think palmer doesn't have to be wringer but, it is a tradition .So palmer feels that he has to be a wringer Because on pg.51 Beans keeps asking palmer "are you going to be a wringer?" so that makes palmer fell like he Has to be a wringer.
ARIANNA F. #13L
ReplyDeleteI don't think Palmer wants to be a wringer, but he feels obligated because everyone expects him to. On Pg. 51 Beans wasn't really helping because he kept asking Palmer about it.
Sean Stanek #24L
ReplyDeleteI think Dorothy is right, I don't think Palmer has to become a wringer. Probably a relative is a wringer and he is next, so he is freaking out (page 43). Palmer can choose to be a wringer or not.

ReplyDeleteI got my evendice earlier in the book. Palmer said on page #43 "Boys became wringers, he heard, when they turn ten." Well it depands, I think you have to be a wringer. But, dont forget it's your life and your choice. If I were a boy I wouldn't become a wringer even if my parents foreced me to.

ReplyDeleteI think Palmer does not want to become a Wringer because I think he LOVES animals. I think why Dorthy says he doesn't want to be a wringer because shes seen hes sweet side and knows that he would never hurt any animal!!
Abby 22L
ReplyDeletePalmer, I think loves animals so much. He does not want to wring any animal. Also, hr sohuold be able to chose if he wants to be a wringer or not.
